Sailing Trip

Muntham House School will be embarking on their third voyage with the Ocean Youth Trust. The Ocean Youth Trust supports young people who do not normally have the opportunity to have experiences at sea.  Pupils will receive an introduction to sailing and will complete their Level 1 Sailing certificate as part of this trip.

This inclusive opportunity allows our pupils not only to grow their mindset, but also to develop fundamental, lifelong transferable skills such as teamwork, communication, resilience and courage. Throughout the week, pupils are encouraged to step outside their comfort zones, take on new responsibilities, and support one another, helping them grow both personally and socially.

Last year, the pupils sailed a total of 151 miles. We travelled across the south coast, sailing from Southampton to Cowes, Weymouth, Poole and Yarmouth. From Cowes, we completed a night sail back to Southampton and, when I say “we”, two of our pupils led the way. This was a huge achievement and demonstrated their confidence, determination and leadership.

During the voyage, pupils were involved in all aspects of life on board, including watch duties, navigation, cooking, cleaning and working as part of a crew. They learned the importance of responsibility, organisation and trust, while also developing strong friendships and a real sense of pride in their achievements.

It is a fantastic opportunity for our fortunate Year 9 pupils as they begin their transition into GCSEs. The experience helps to build confidence, independence and resilience, preparing them for the challenges ahead. Many pupils return from the voyage with a sense of motivation and a greater belief in their own abilities.

We are extremely proud of our pupils who take part in this programme and grateful to the Ocean Youth Trust for continuing to provide such a valuable opportunity. We look forward to another successful and memorable voyage this Summer for our pupils, which will be a memorable experience that they will never forget.
