Therapy Hubs / Outreach Project

Therapy Hubs /Outreach project offers therapeutic support to local primary and secondary mainstream schools in West Sussex. Counselling or therapy is provided by qualified and experienced therapeutic staff from Muntham House School at no cost to local mainstream schools.  Pupils attend Muntham House to receive the support on a weekly basis if the pupil is of a secondary age, this will continue for a period of either 6 weeks or 12 weeks.  If the pupil is of a primary age, they will come to the school for a whole day and experience a range of therapeutic activities along with other children from their mainstream school. Pupils from primary mainstream schools will get to experience: Lego therapy, Sensory regulation, Canine therapy, Forest School and Play therapy.

Staff from the mainstream schools are expected to attend the sessions to develop their knowledge, understanding and expertise in order that, they will be able to take back some strategies into their mainstream schools.  Feedback is requested at the end of the placement or outreach day to gain an understanding of how beneficial the therapy hubs outreach project was found the day to be.  For secondary pupils, the GAD-7 questionnaire is used to measure pupils feelings of anxiety and pupil wellbeing.  The GAD-7 questionnaire is then completed at the end of the project to identify any improvements which have taken place.  Feedback from pupils, parents/carers and the school itself is requested at the end of the outreach project so that we can measure the impact that it has had on each of the pupils.

The programme has been running successfully for the past 5 years in which time it has had a wonderful  impact on pupils:

  • reduction of anxiety
  • reduction in exclusion
  • reduction in CAMHS referrals
  • increase in school attendance
  • improvement in school attainment
  • developed inclusion
  • improvement in pupils self esteem
  • improvement in parental support
  • improvement in inclusive practise between schools

Pupils who have an EHCP or are displaying SEN behaviours are suitable for the programme.  The Therapy Hubs Outreach project is in high demand; however, if you do have any enquiries or would like to join the waiting list for an individual pupil or for your primary school to have an outreach day, then please contact our Head of Therapy, Shona Puttick via email at [email protected]
