EURO GAMES
It's Coming Home........(we hope)
ENGLAND V CZECH REPUBLIC
So, with the current situation surrounding COVID-19 the Post-16 team- pupils and staff welcomed the start of the Euros....even if they were slightly delayed. Mr Hellyer generated everyone's excitement, by putting up a poster in the classroom and getting everyone to pick a team. Could England really do it this year? was the big question on everyone's lips. To give us all something to look forward to and to be positive about was incredibly welcoming. It has been and exceptionally tough time for our pupils and we collectively as a whole in post 16, have been so very proud of the resilience, strength and positivity that our pupils have shown. Time to hit the play button on the Three Lions song and believe that this year it could be ours for the taking...... well maybe.... (I am writing this at 6pm ahead of our game against Denmark!!)
Staff worked together on both Care and Education, to try and find a way to watch the game safely following all the covid guidelines and recommendations, the safety of all our pupils and staff is always paramount. We decided that Casey's Court, was the best venue as it is so spacious, and we were able to open both double doors. The preparations started a few days before with the ordering of pizzas for the big game, and face paints to do England flags on the cheeks of anyone wanting them. Miss Lawson went shopping for popcorn and sweets treats for the pupils and I went on a hunt for the biggest England flags we could find, and they were perfect. On arrival at school in the afternoon and ahead of the 8pm kick off, our lovely day pupils all came to help us decorate the room, blowing up balloons, hanging flags and bunting, finding staplers and sellotape, who would have thought in a school that these things are so difficult to locate. Our wonderful IT staff Dave and Alan worked hard to get the game streamed into Casey's Court and Mr Clayton came to our rescue when we realized that we had no sound.... Thanks Mr Clayton.
A few of the pupils had their faces painted and we hoped that this might work as a lucky charm. The game kicked off and on the big screen it looked amazing, the tension and excitement was fantastic. Mr Anderson chatted with the boys during the game, but when England scored all anyone could hear was Mr Barretts screams!! At half time the popcorn and sweets were enjoyed by all, then we settled down for the final half. We did it, we won against Czech Republic, let's hope we continue the winning streak.
After the game despite the excitement all the pupils followed staff instructions and settled well. A lovely evening had by all and great to share and enjoy the excitement together.
Huge thanks to Miss Lawson and Mr Hellyer for all their help and organization and for staying late to enjoy the game with us.
