Art Therapy  ART_LOGO.jpg

Art Therapy is a psychological therapy that uses art as a medium for communication and emotional support. It gives a safe space for pupils to explore their inner world through creative expression.

Using language to express and make sense of experiences can be too difficult for some pupils. Art therapy sessions are 1:1 and non-directive; the pupil leads the session and the therapist responds to the needs of the pupil from a practical and therapeutic standpoint.

This provides a form of nonverbal communication in which pupils can use their creativity and imagination to express their feelings and communicate their perception of the world by themselves or with another.

Using an array of creative mediums such as clay, paint and sand, helps the pupil to feel calm when working through distressing or confusing emotional issues. The sensory nature of this modality can also supports the development of emotional regulation through sensory integration.
